about us
The journey that feeds the sources and inspiration of the creator of Comacini Spazi begins in the Andalusian baroque of the city of Antequera.
Gold leaf, sacred art, and the marble of Torcal are his first aesthetic references, and those that made painting, sculpture, and antique furniture become a very early passion.
Ultimately, the discovery of 19th-century French decoration marked a turning point in his aesthetic influences, particularly delving into the influence of a fellow countrywoman from Granada, Eugenia de Montijo.
Eugenia de Montijo was in fact a Spaniard who brought to the French court the influence of Spanish decoration and craftsmanship, which together with the Romantic tendency towards the exotic and ‘Orientalism’ gave rise to a style as unique as it was influential in the rest of the continent.
The path that ended up shaping the style itself, which could only simplistically be described as eclectic, has as its starting point Italy, which re-appropriated classicism in its broadest conception, recovering from oblivion the figure of the maestri comacini, a group of Italian craftsmen who, after the decline of the Roman Empire and the gradual abandonment of the trades that had made the empire’s art and architecture great, decided to get together and organise themselves as a true art lodge to revive those trades that were fading away at the beginning of the Middle Ages.
And it is precisely this journey from Baroque gold leaf to Italian marble, from Andalusian craftsmanship to the refinement of French decoration, the stylistic combination that ‘Comacini Spazi’ draws on, blending it all with the technical and ergonomic solutions that modern architecture and engineering allow.
A journey from the rediscovery of the past, to the present and the future, transported through elements and components rich in history and soul that blend with modernity.
This is the starting point from which its decorative projects are born, adapting them to the personality and needs of a clientele that appreciates quality materials, impeccable finishes, efficiency and sustainability, to ultimately create unique spaces to enhance the personality of each customer.
A project with ‘Comacini Spaces’ is a personalised journey and an experience through art, decoration and the discovery of objects and materials that, in the end, create a home or professional space that each client can truly feel as their own, because, as David Hume said, ‘the beauty of things lies in the spirit of the beholder’.
“Every piece of furniture, every piece of craftsmanship and every work of art contains many stories, collecting them and using them in my projects is a way of paying homage to these stories and preserving them to continue their journey through time”
Álvaro Luque.
